Mental Health Support for Children & Adolescents
At A Healing Path Counseling, we understand how important your decision is when seeking care for your child or teen. Mental health plays a vital role in a young person’s emotional, cognitive, and social development, laying the foundation for their resilience, self-esteem, and future success.
Our trauma-informed therapists are trained to support children (ages 5+) and adolescents through life’s challenges with empathy and age-appropriate strategies. We provide tools for emotional regulation, stress management, and communication, while also guiding families toward more connected and cohesive relationships.
Why Mental Health Matters for Kids and Teens
Mental wellness affects every part of a child’s life, from how they perform at school to how they relate to others and navigate their emotions. Early support helps build healthy coping skills and prevents small issues from becoming long-term struggles. Whether your child is experiencing anxiety, grief, school-related stress, or behavioral changes, our compassionate team is here to help.
Common Signs to Look For
If you're concerned about your child’s mental health, these signs may indicate a need for additional support:
Behavior Changes
Withdrawal, mood swings, aggression, or sudden changes in personality
Physical Symptoms
Sleep problems, appetite changes, or frequent unexplained headaches/stomachaches
Emotional Shifts
Ongoing sadness, anxiety, hopelessness, or loss of interest in activities
Social Challenges
Isolation, difficulty maintaining friendships, or risky behavior
Academic Struggles
Trouble focusing, dropping grades, or reluctance to attend school
Life Transitions
Struggles with divorce, loss, moving, or major family changes
Many parents come to us wondering whether their child’s difficulty focusing, impulsive behavior, or emotional outbursts may be signs of Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). ADHD is one of the most common childhood mental health conditions and can affect attention span, executive functioning, and emotional regulation.
Our clinicians offer comprehensive ADHD assessments to determine if an ADHD diagnosis is appropriate and to guide treatment planning.
In addition to traditional talk therapy, we also offer non-invasive, drug-free neurofeedback therapy: a form of EEG biofeedback that helps retrain the brain’s activity patterns to support better focus, behavior regulation, and emotional control. Neurofeedback can be an effective alternative for families who want to support their child without turning to medication as a first step.
