LCSW Supervision
SUPERVISOR: Dayna Gurley, LCSW-S, ACM, CCTS
About Dayna
I am the owner of the group practice, A Healing Path Counseling & Consulting, PLLC. My clinical focus is on trauma, and I has multiple certifications and trainings, including working with individuals, sexually exploited, and first responders. My practice offers individual, group, and family counseling and I am trained in EMDR and Ketamine Assisted Therapy. I am currently being trained to become a Certified Psychedelic Assisted Therapist and interested in the process for faster and more beneficial therapies.
I strive to be objective and self-reflective, and in supervision and in my practice, I provide a space for the supervisees to grow and learn. I am a “forever learner” and want to be in a position to share that knowledge.
I provide to have an organized, thought-provoking session while being relaxed and ready to take and receive feedback. I pose questions and look at real case studies to examine how to handle situations. I create a non-judgmental, curious, and supportive atmosphere. One major goal is to challenge and improve critical thinking and examining a holistic view to solve difficult clinical situations. If you are ready for supervision, I know that you are masters level clinicians with knowledge and experience that could enhance the sessions. I take a strengths based and person centered approach to the sessions to provide an opportunity for the supervisees to learn and grow based on their own skills and practice.
Becoming an LCSW
LCSW supervision is a required part of the process of becoming a licensed clinical social worker (LCSW). It is a process of training and support that helps new social workers develop the skills and knowledge they need to practice independently.
The Texas State Board of Social Worker Examiners (TSBSWE) requires that all applicants for an LCSW license complete 3,000 hours of supervised clinical experience. This experience must be completed under the supervision of a licensed clinical social worker (LCSW) or a licensed master social worker (LMSW) who is qualified to provide supervision for LCSW licensure.
The supervision must be completed within a period of no more than 48 months.
In addition to the 3,000 hours of supervised clinical experience, applicants for an LCSW license must also complete 100 hours of specialized supervision in the following areas:
- Clinical diagnosis: This includes learning how to diagnose mental health disorders using the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM).
- Treatment planning: This includes learning how to develop and implement treatment plans for clients.
- Risk assessment: This includes learning how to assess the risk of harm to clients and others.
- Legal and ethical issues: This includes learning about the legal and ethical issues that social workers face in their practice.
The specialized supervision must be completed under the supervision of a qualified supervisor who is experienced in providing supervision in these areas.
Once the applicant has completed the required supervised clinical experience and specialized supervision, they can apply for an LCSW license with the TSBSWE.
Format of Supervision
The group supervision with Dayna typically takes place once bi-weekly and lasts for two hours. Individual supervision is available upon request and the schedule will be negotiable. During supervision, the supervisor will review the supervisee’s work with clients, provide feedback, and offer guidance. Dayna may also help the supervisee develop treatment plans, troubleshoot challenges, and stay up to date on best practices.
Supervision is an essential part of becoming an LCSW. It provides new social workers with the support and guidance they need to develop the skills and knowledge they need to practice safely and effectively.
